Mauricio Pochettino explains Son Heung-min decision in FA Cup tie

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur won in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur got the better of AFC Wimbledon with ease at the weekend, winning the FA Cup third-round tie 3-0.

The North London outfit headed into the match on Sunday against AFC Wimbledon as favourites and deservedly won, with England international striker Harry Kane scoring twice.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino fielded quite a strong team against the League One outfit, with the likes of Kane, Jan Vertonghen, Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembele all starting.

One player who did not start the match but has been in excellent form in recent weeks is Son Heung-min.

The South Korea international, who can operate as a winger or as a forward, started the game as a substitute.

The 25-year-old, who has been on the books of Spurs since the summer of 2015 when he joined from German club Bayer Leverkusen, came on as a substitute just before the hour mark.

Tottenham manager Pochettino has given a one-word response in regarding to why Son did not start the FA Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon.

When asked by Football.London whether Son on the bench because he was being rested or was it tactical, Pochettino simply said: “Both.”
