Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that playmaker Dele Alli ‘felt strange’ in the warm-up against Everton today.

Spurs were back in Premier League action this afternoon after their Champions League exploits against Ajax in midweek, needing just a point to secure fourth spot in the Premier League.

Eric Dier gave Spurs the lead, but Everton struck twice as Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun both found the back of the net to put the Toffees in front.

However, Christian Eriksen pounced quickly to bring Spurs level, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw as the two sides took a point each to end the season.

Spurs guaranteed fourth place and a return to Champions League action next season, but there was some concern about Dele Alli’s situation.

The midfielder started the game but was substituted for Victor Wanyama at half time, leaving some to worry about an injury – especially with the Champions League final on the horizon.

Pochettino noted after the game that Alli ‘felt strange’ in the warm-up but decided to play anyway, but that explained why he was ‘so poor’ in the first half, with his ‘small problem’ halting him.

“He felt strange in the warm-up and that’s why his performance was so poor in the first half, he couldn’t do what he wanted,” said Pochettino. “We made a change at the break but it’s a small problem,” he added.
