Mauricio Pochettino has suggested on BT Sport that he spotted that Christian Eriksen and Heung Min-Son had problems in Tottenham Hotspur training this week.

Eriksen and Son were both left on the substitutes’ bench last night, as Spurs took on Inter Milan in the Champions League.

The pair had been in destructive form against Chelsea, but Pochettino did not want to risk playing them twice in five days.

The decision raised eye-brows, but Pochettino says that he felt that it would have been too much of a risk to start them both.

He said: “I can’t explain easily. It’s so difficult to explain. But during the week when you are training that is how we feel. The players sometimes they have problem, they are a little bit tired, and it’s a risk. The most important is to give confidence to the whole squad.

“Sometimes when you win you need to do something to spark the team to tell them it’s not about the team it’s about the quality.”

Eriksen and Son ultimately came off the bench and they made a big impact during the contest.

Tottenham now have a chance of qualifying from their group, but they are likely to need to beat Barcelona in their final game.
