Mauricio Pochettino drops hints about his team selection against Borussia Dortmund

Tottenham Hotspur take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he will play his ‘best team’ against Borussia Dortmund despite having already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 away at North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, with Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez condemning Pochettino to defeat.

There is no respite for Spurs though, as they are right back in action on Tuesday night, with a Champions League trip to Borussia Dortmund coming up.

A 3-1 win in their last Champions League outing means that Spurs have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, but will now be looking to claim top spot.

A win over Borussia Dortmund would go some way to achieving that, and having beaten them 3-1 at Wembley Stadium, Pochettino will be hoping to do a double over the German outfit.

Having only played the North London derby a few days ago, some have wondered about what kind of team Tottenham will field, especially given concerns over Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Both players missed the international break due to injury, and were not only disappointing against Arsenal, but were both substituted despite Spurs being 2-0 down at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, Pochettino has told Football.London that he intends to play with his best team despite having already qualified for the knockout stages, and he claims that both Kane and Alli were ready to play against Arsenal, and he won’t take a risk with any of his players.

“They were both fit to play on Saturday. We had a conversation with all 25 players before and when I get the perception and feeling I make a decision,” said Pochettino. “Every decision is for the best of the team and them. I hope not too many players rest tomorrow. It’s clear the objective was to qualify and we’ve done that but we now want to finish top.”

“We are going to play with our best team, fresh players and like always never taking risk with them. The most important thing is the health of the players. We analyse a lot. Maybe for some people it’s hard to understand but we have all the knowledge,” he added.
