The Tottenham Hotspur youngster is on loan to Sheffield United until the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur will weigh up whether or not to recall Cameron Carter-Vickers from his loan spell at Sheffield United within the next few days, according to head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino revealed via Football.London on Tuesday that Tottenham will be without key centre-back Toby Alderweireld until the start of February.
And that could spell bad news for Sheffield United, for whom Carter-Vickers has been an almost ever-present since breaking into the Blades’ starting 11 in mid-September.
Asked whether he is thinking about recalling the United States international, Pochettino added via Football.London: “Yes, it’s a decision we need to talk about in the next few days.
“But I think if all is going well with Toby… I think at the beginning of February he will be ready again to play. It’s true that today with Davinson [Sanchez] suspended, maybe the squad looks a little bit like we need someone. But I think we have different players that can play there, and I think I am happy with the squad. We’ll see.
“The decision with Cameron is more about his development than if we need or don’t need some more centre-backs in the squad. The decision will be together with John [McDermott, Tottenham’s head of coaching and player development], Dean Rastrick [Tottenham’s academy manager] and Steve [Hitchen, Tottenham’s chief scout] and of course the club, and trying to provide the player the solution, but not because maybe we need to cover the position or not.”
Carter-Vickers’ early form for Sheffield United led to his first international appearance at the start of November, however, the 19-year-old was dropped for Friday night’s defeat against Bristol City after a handful of questionable displays.
Losing a Tottenham loanee midway through his Bramall Lane spell would be nothing new to Sheffield United, who saw Kyle Walker’s deal abruptly cut short on deadline day seven years ago.
