The Spurs boss has confirmed that two first-team stars will be fit to return.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told the club’s official website that senior pair Toby Alderweireld and Vincent Janssen will be fit to return for the clash with Southampton on Wednesday.
Spurs travel to face Pochettino’s former club at St. Mary’s on December 28 in their first fixture after Christmas.
Former Saints loan star Alderweireld missed the previous fixture, the victory over Burnley, with a back complaint but will be fit to return to the starting line-up after a 10-day break.
Meanwhile, summer signing Janssen has not played for the club since late November because of an ankle problem, but is also expected to be available for selection on the south coast.
Pochettino said, as quoted on the club’s website: “Toby will be available, he has been training well after his problem with his back, Vincent Janssen will be available too.”
However, winger Erik Lamela will still not be fit to return to action in Tottenham’s last match of 2016.
The Argentina star has been struggling in his recovery from a hip problem which has sidelined him for the last two months.
Pochettino added: “It’s only Erik Lamela that will still be out.
“We’ll see what happens. It’s a slow recovery, we are happy but we need to be patient with him.”
Spurs do not play on Boxing Day, and as a result could be down to sixth in the table and four points off a Champions League spot by the time they next play.
