The Tottenham Hotspur ace suffered a knee injury last night.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Newcastle United last night, and provided and injury update on Kieran Trippier, who was substituted in the 83rd minute after suffering a suspected twisted knee, as quoted by Football.London.
Spurs secured qualification for the Champions League for the third successive season with last night’s win over the Magpies, and they deserve great credit for achieving that, especially considering the fact that they played all of their home games at Wembley Stadium this season.
Trippier has been one of Pochettino’s most important players this season, and his fine form has limited Serge Aurier to just 16 Premier League starts.
The 27-year-old has been so impressive this season that he is now considered as genuine competition for Kyle Walker in the right-back position for England, but his injury last night could affect his dreams of representing his country in Russia this summer.
Pochettino spoke to reporters last night, and provided an update on the former Burnley man after he limped of with a knee problem late on in the match against Newcastle, as quoted by Football.London:
“We need to wait until tomorrow, after tomorrow we will assess. I hope and I wish it is not a big issue. Of course we are a little concerned about the situation, only the wishes and I hope that it is not a big issue and he can be ready and fit to play the World Cup. I think it was a twist of his knee.”
Trippier still has around five weeks to prove his fitness before England’s World Cup gets underway, so he will still be confident in his ability of making Gareth Southgate’s squad for Russia.
