Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has declared his happiness at the desire of Erik Lamela to sign a new deal at the club.

Yesterday the Argentine playmaker told the Evening Standard of his happiness at Spurs and his desire to commit his long-term future to the club.

His manager was speaking to the press today ahead of Spurs’ meeting with Premier League champions Leicester City at the weekend.

According to the Hampstead and Highgate Express he had this to say about Lamela’s comments:

“That is good news, that the player shows their commitment to the club and wants to be here and commit to the future.

“It’s fantastic for us. Lamela is still very young and he’s an important player for us. I’m happy to hear that.

“I’m always honest with you and nothing happens in the next week. There’s nothing to announce, nothing is coming.”

Pochettino then is clearly happy that Lamela wants to remain with Spurs, but at the moment it would appear nothing is in the pipeline.

Lamela initially struggled to settle into English football when he came to club from AS Roma in 2013. But he has since become an integral member of the Spurs first-team and a player the club would certainly not want to see the back of.

He has recently been linked, tentatively it must be said, with a move to AC Milan in the summer – with the Rossoneri set for some major new investment.

But it seems his long-term future is set to be at Spurs.
