Harry Winks had to be stretchered off during Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Burnley at Turf Moor at the weekend.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has told the club’s official website that it is looking likely that Harry Winks will not feature again this season following the injury he suffered at Burnley last weekend.

Despite picking up a win at Turf Moor, the game was somewhat overshadowed from a Spurs perspective by the injuries suffered by Victor Wanyama and Winks either side of half-time.

The incident involving the latter certainly appeared to be the worse with Winks having to be stretched off. And Pochettino has suggested that it may be extremely optimistic to suggest that the midfielder will play again before the curtain comes down on the season.

“We hope there is no big issue but it’s true it will be difficult for him to play again this season,” he told the club’s official website.

“He twisted his ankle. Now we need to see what has happened in(side) his ankle, we need to see the scans.”

It is an extremely cruel blow for the 21-year-old who has worked so hard to break into the team over the last few years, especially as the game saw him make his first Premier League start for Tottenham since they faced the same opposition back in December.

But having had a taste of fairly regular first-team football over the last few months, Winks will surely have all the motivation he needs to come back from this setback and make an impression in Pochettino’s side once again in the near future.
