The Tottenham Hotspur ace put in another match-winning display for his team today.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, in the aftermath of his side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Newcastle United, and raved about the quality of Heung-Min Son, comparing the South Korean to Lionel Messi, and strangely enough…a battery, as quoted by Football.London.
The 26-year-old has been absolutely vital to Spurs this season, and he seems to have reached an entirely new level since the the Christmas period.
Son signed for Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015, for around £18 million, and he has gone on to rack up 62 goals and 35 assists in 170 appearances in all competitions.
The pacey forward is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League, but is he one of Europe’s best? Pochettino certainly thinks so.
The Argentine compared Son to the world’s best player Lionel Messi, whilst highlighting an interesting likeness between the 26-year-old and a battery, as quoted by Football.London:
“Sonny is like when you have a battery, you work work work and then the battery is gone. He is like this, he gives you everything and when he’s exhausted he says ‘I need to change’ or needs to rest. The most important thing is how you run and how you affect the game and the capacity and quality. It’s not about distance. It’s like if you say does Messi run a lot of distance. No, but in the distance he applied the pace, or how powerful he is in the moment which made the difference. Sonny is similar.”
Tottenham now sit in second spot in the Premier League table, just four points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, and if they are to have any chance whatsoever of winning their first top flight title since 1961, Son will have to be on his very best form between now and May.
The South Korean is a top class talent, of that there is no doubt, but in all fairness, he is probably closer to a battery than he is Messi…
