Tottenham Hotspur have conceded 10 goals from their last two games following their 3-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that it is ‘easier’ managing Tottenham in their current situation because the club is in his own hands.
The Argentine claimed that managing a team like Espanyol, which he did prior to his arrival in England, is a lot tougher because they were fighting relegation at the time, with little time left.
On Saturday, Spurs suffered yet another defeat, this time in the Premier League, when Graham Potter’s Brighton put three past them at the Amex Stadium.
After the game, Pochettino tried to dampen down the current situation he finds himself in and his players find themselves in.
On it being the toughest point of his managerial career: “This is easier,” Pochettino told Football London. “It’s easier when the club in your hands is one like Tottenham. The potential you have and the players.
“In the last few months, we were playing in the Champions League. I think the difficulty is when you take charge at Espanyol. We were eight points below with only 20 games to survive regelation. A different situation against at Southampton.”
Where Pochettino has taken Tottenham in these last five years has been pretty remarkable and he will be hoping to continue that rise.
There’s no doubt that the North London club have hit a pretty big brick wall, but for the majority, Pochettino has been a success at the club.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if new faces and younger players are injected into the team in the next 12-18 months because it does seem this current squad is at a crossroads.
