Mauricio Pochettino has told Football London that he was ‘disappointed’ with Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane on Tuesday.

Spurs suffered a dramatic 2-1 defeat away to Inter Milan in their Champions League opener.

Tottenham conceded twice in the final five minutes as Pochettino’s side got their Group B campaign off to a poor start.

It could and probably should have been a different story for the North Londoners, who missed good chances before and after Christian Eriksen’s opener on 54 minutes.

Kane was guilty for missing at least one of those, when he tried to go around goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, and Pochettino claims that Inter legend Javier Zanetti intimated to him that Spurs would have gone had the 25-year-old striker scored in that instance.

“Yes, I am disappointed because he had big chances to score in the first half,” he told Football London.

“I was talking to Javier Zanetti, who is a very good friend of mine, and he said if he scores in the first half, we are talking a different game.”

It has been a testing first month of the season for the England striker, who has netted twice in six games across all competitions.

That isn’t the form of someone who has scooped the Golden Boot in two of the last three Premier League seasons, but he is certain to come good again. As the old adage in football goes, form is temporary and class is permanent.
