Mauricio Pochettino has told Football London that he didn’t like the way that Tottenham Hotspur pressed last night.

Spurs ran out 5-0 winners over Red Star Belgrade, and their performance was much better than it has been in recent weeks.

Tottenham seemed to put more energy into their display, as they looked to silence some of the criticism that had been directed their way in recent weeks.

Spurs have been so passive in recent defeats, but they tried to play on the front foot yesterday.

Pochettino’s side overturned possession on numerous occasions, as they cruised to success.

However, Pochettino still spotted room for improvement and he wants to see his Tottenham side press with even more intensity in future.

“Not really in the way that I like no, not yet,” Pochettino said, when asked whether Spurs pressed well last night.

“It will arrive for sure, if we keep working. Of course in some periods we showed great energy and I think it helped us score two goals in 15 minutes. I think it gave us the confidence and of course our fans were fantastic.”

Tottenham will surely be hoping that this victory can provide them with a platform to build upon, after a difficult campaign so far.

Spurs have looked out of sorts, but there were glimpses of their best on display last night, as they boosted their chances of progressing in the Champions League.

Tottenham are next in action against Liverpool, when any deficiencies in their pressing game are likely to be punished.
