Spurs signed Sessegnon from Championship club Fulham on transfer deadline day for an initial fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25 million.
The 19-year-old is one of the best and most promising young players in England, and can operate as a left-back or as a winger.
Tottenham fans must be looking forward to watching the England Under-21 international in action, but Pochettino’s comments will disappoint them.
Pochettino told Football.London: “Ryan is 19 years old and he could be a very good player. He doesn’t have that much experience in the Premier League, but maybe he is a little bit behind Lo Celso and Ndombele in age, they have more experience playing in a top level.
“Maybe he needs three or four weeks out of the group, and we will see how he adapts.”
Good plan?
Sessegnon has only just joined Tottenham, and it will take the youngster a while to understand Pochettino’s system and style of play.
It would make sense for the teenager to play for the first team in a competitive match only after spending a certain amount of time training.
Spurs are a good team without the 19-year-old, and rushing him into action could be counter-productive.
Tottenham will take on Aston Villa in their opening Premier League game of the season this evening.
