Mauricio Pochettino clarifies Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld’s comments on injury.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said in the press conference on Friday ahead of the clash against Stoke City that Tony Alderweireld’s recent comment on his injury has been misinterpreted.
The Belgium defender told the reporters earlier this week that he could be out of action for a further 14 weeks, if scans reveal a further tear on his injured hamstring.
The 28-year-old has been out of action since Spurs’ Champions League clash against Real Madrid on November 1st. It was feared that he would be out for around two months.

“I suffered a serious muscle tear, and there is a major risk of me suffering a relapse. If the muscle tears completely then I will need an operation, and 14 weeks of recovery time,” said Alderweireld, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.
However, Pochettino has insisted that his comments have been misinterpreted. According to Pochettino, what he meant is if the injury turns out to be worse than it was, with surgery, he could be out for 14 weeks.
However, the Argentine has assured that hasn’t been the case. He further added that Alderweireld’s treatment has been going on nicely, and that he is recovering well.

“No, he’s doing well. I think someone misinterprets him. I’m going to clarify the situation. He said ‘if it’s the case that the injury was worse than it was, with surgery I would maybe spend 14 weeks out’,” said Pochettino, as quoted by Football London.
“But it wasn’t the case. He doesn’t need anything more than to work hard and have treatment now from medical staff. He’s on plan, on time and he’s recovering well. We don’t need to be worried because we avoid, and he avoids, an injury that could maybe keep him out for a long time. It wasn’t like this. I don’t know if I clarify or if it’s worse now!”
Alderweireld has proven himself to be one of the best centre-backs in the world, since joining the Lilywhites from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, and Spurs fans will be hoping that he returns to action at the earliest.
