Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min has a massive game on international duty today.

Mauricio Pochettino has told Football London that he won’t be sending a good luck message to Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min before his Asian Games final with South Korea.

The Tottenham attacker takes on Japan in the final of the tournament in Jakarta.

It’s a massive game for the 26-year-old and one that also has big implications for Spurs.

If South Korea lose, Son, who signed a new five-year contract in North London this summer, would be required to spend 21 months on military service for his country when he turns 28.

But victory would see Son and his 19 team-mates exempt, and Pochettino told Football London that he won’t be wishing his player good luck on the basis that South Korea have reached the final without him sending any pre-match messages of support – a trend he is too worried to buck now.

“I’m not going to wish luck because I haven’t so far and I don’t want to be the person who wishes him luck and then something wrong happens,” he said.

“It’s so difficult in the spotlight. Of course, it’s such an important game for him. We all hope we can win.”

Son has 30 goals and 13 assists in 100 Premier League outings for the Lilywhites.
