Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to Football.London that he is disappointed that Juan Foyth is ineligible for the Champions League.

Foyth has been playing well for Tottenham in the Premier League in recent weeks and is showcasing his quality.

The 20-year-old central defender, though, will not feature in Spurs’ Champions League Group B game against Inter Milan at the Wembley Stadium in London on Wednesday evening.

That’s because Tottenham manager Pochettino decided to leave the Argentine centre-back out of the Champions League squad.

The Argentine boss has admitted his disappointment at leaving the youngster, as well as Dutch striker Vincent Janssen and winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

Pochettino told Football.London: “I am so disappointed because not only Juan, but GK and Vincent Janssen are out of the squad.

“It’s so painful but it’s decision that we made. For different reasons we need to fix it before the start of the season.

“If you find my speech before the season I was so disappointed because the squad was big. Some players have to be out of the list.

“We needed English players. Now we are finished and I hope that we can include him in March.”

Big game

Tottenham are third in the Champions League Group B at the moment with four points from as many matches.

Spurs are three points behind second-placed Inter, and the Premier League club have to win on Wednesday.

Pochettino’s side got the better of Chelsea in the London derby at the weekend, and they will be confident of picking up all three points against Italian giants Inter.
