Mauricio Pochettino reveals the advice he has received from Osvaldo Ardiles about Tottenham Hotspur fans and cup competitions.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed to The Sun the great relationship he has with club legend Osvaldo Ardiles.
Former Argentina international midfielder Ardiles is one of the greatest players in Tottenham’s history, having won the FA Cup in 1981 and the UEFA Cup in 1984 with the North London club.
The 62-year-old is an Argentina great as well, having won the 1978 World Cup with the South American giants.
Pochettino, who is also from Argentina, has now given an insight into the relationship he has with Ardiles.
“I speak with Ossie a lot,” The Sun quotes the 42-year-old as saying. “He comes into my room before a game and we have a chat.
“And he sees me once a week and has lunch with us. We laugh a lot and he has many anecdotes, funny, funny stories. We have a great relationship.
“He is a legend. If we get success in the future, he will have played an important part. He explained to me how important it is for the supporters and the club to get to finals.
“That is what we are fighting for — to get the victory against Sheffield United on Wednesday and to get past Leicester in the FA Cup.”
Tottenham are having a great season and are in line to win as many as three cup competitions.
The North London outfit have reached the last 32 of the Europa League, the semi-finals of the League Cup and the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Spurs will take on Leicester City at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup today and will be favourites to go through.
It will not be easy for Pochettino and his players, but they certainly have more quality than their Premier League rivals.
