Fernando Llorente’s future is still unclear after Mauricio Pochettino’s latest comments regarding the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
The 33-year-old bagged a brace in Spurs’ game with Roma in the International Champions Cup, with another fringe player Lucas Moura also scoring two during a 4-1 win.
Llorente was making the most of a rare chance under Pochettino, who obviously has Harry Kane as his go-to striker, and the former Swansea City man did not disappoint.
He did not give much away and said, as reported by Sky Sports: “I’m not going to talk about individual situations because if I’m going to talk now about someone I need to speak about everyone.
“I am focusing on trying to work hard, trying to provide the team and every single player with the best tools to improve. Of course I’m happy when the striker scores and feels the net.”
Llorente may not have been given much game time since his 2017 switch to Spurs, but he has proved that he can still be a useful player, despite his advancing years.
The former Athletic Bilbao stalwart does not rely on searing pace, but is extremely effective in the air and is a fine target man who is able to bring others around him into play.
With the Sun reporting recently that the club are open to letting Vincent Janssen leave, it is looking for the moment like he could be staying put. But one simply cannot second guess anything this summer, and Pochettino and Daniel Levy are certainly keeping their cards close to their chest.
