Mauricio Pochettino has praised Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli’s effort in Watford draw.
Tottenham Hotspur manager has praised Dele Alli for his efforts during their recent 1-1 draw with Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
It was a frustrating result for the Lilywhites who have managed just one win from their last six league games.
The north Londoners fell behind as Tom Cleverley’s corner was met by an unmarked Christian Kabasele, heading home the opener.
Son Heung-min levelled things up for the visitors, but their hopes of revival were dealt a severe blow when Davinson Sanchez was given the marching order for a challenge on Richarlison.
Pochettino opted to replace Alli with Harry Winks in the 86th minute, and the England international was upset with the substitution.
The Argentine has looked at the positive side of things, saying that it only goes on to reflect Alli’s character and willingness to compete.
The Spurs boss has hailed his effort as “amazing”, although Alli didn’t have enough influence in the game.
His positioning defensively was good, but there was little output going forward. He made only 29 passes in the game, and failed to register a shot on goal.
“Like Christian [Eriksen] or Sonny, but it’s normal, the players who have character always show their disappointment, but it wasn’t for the substitution,” said Pochettino, as quoted by Football London.
“He was disappointed and frustrated because today was a game we wanted to win and when you play with ten men for 40 minutes and the effort.
“Because he got to play deeper with Mousa Dembele and of course the effort was amazing from him and the whole team. But I think he was good and no problem.”
