Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen looks to be staying put.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he can’t say for sure that Christian Eriksen will still be with the club tomorrow.
Spurs took on North London rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, and whilst they went 2-0 up at the Emirates Stadium, they could only manage a 2-2 draw.
After a superb first-half showing, Spurs couldn’t continue that into the second period, and fans may still be a little worried about the start to the season.
Spurs did though recall Eriksen to the starting line-up after Pochettino bizarrely left him on the bench against Newcastle United last week, and he scored the opening goal.
Eriksen was important in that first half display, dictating the play and opening up the Arsenal defence on the break, again demonstrating his importance to this Spurs side.
The Dane has been linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer, having outlined his intentions to move on and experience a new challenge after six years with the club.
Spurs may have hoped to cash in given that Eriksen can leave for nothing in 2020, but the chances are that he will now be with Tottenham at least until January.
The European transfer window ends today, meaning clubs have less than 24 hours to prise Eriksen away from Tottenham, making a deal seem incredibly unlikely.
After the draw with Arsenal, Pochettino was asked whether he could guarantee that Eriksen is staying, but he doesn’t think it’s impossible for him to go, just very difficult now – and he seemingly can’t wait for the rumours to end.
“No, there are still hours or one day,” said Pochettino. “I want to say it is going to be impossible but it is going to be difficult (for him to leave). I think nothing is impossible in football, but the most important thing is that it is only 24 hour and I hope that everything will be clear for everyone,” he added.
