Mousa Dembele is playing well for Tottenham Hotspur at the moment.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed to The Times what he has told Mousa Dembele regarding his quality.
Pochettino has disclosed that he would have loved to work with the Belgium international midfielder when he was 18 years of age.
The Argentine boss has also compared Dembele, now 29, to footballing legends Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho.
“He has started to work very hard, we are very happy,” Pochettino told The Times about Dembele. “I always say, ‘Mousa, in my book, you will be one of my genius players that I have been lucky to meet’. One was Maradona, Ronaldinho, Jay-Jay Okocha and Ivan de la Pena.
“We always told him that if we had taken him at 18 or 19 years old, he would have become one of the best players in the world. I would have loved to have taken him at 18.”
Dembele is a brilliant footballer, and he has progressed massively under Pochettino over the past three or so years.
The former Fulham star, who cost Tottenham £15 million according to The Daily Mail, is now one of the best players in the current Tottenham team and is a key reason behind their success this season.
Pochettino’s comments also highlight just good Dembele could have been had he been playing under him.
The former Espanyol boss is a very good manager who is bringing the best out of a number of Spurs players, such as Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.
Dembele is 29 years of age, but he still has a few goodyears left in him, and Tottenham fans will hope that he continues to improve and progress under Pochettino.
