Tottenham Hotspur were unable to find a way to break down Swansea City in their most recent fixture.

Mauricio Pochettino has told the Daily Mirror that Serge Aurier should have been booked by Mike Dean, after he was found guilty of hand-ball during Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Swansea City.

Aurier was controversially denied a penalty in the latter stages of the contest on Saturday, when he appeared to be upended in the box.

The Ivorian full-back was adjudged to have handled the ball by Mike Dean, when replays showed that it hit his chest.

And Pochettino has queried why Dean didn’t brandish a card, after deeming Aurier guilty of handling the ball in such a dangerous position.

“The only thing I will say is why did the ref try to justify his actions by giving a handball and then telling everyone it was handball against Aurier,” Pochettino said.

“If he believes it was handball against Aurier then that’s fine but there is no need to keep shouting it in the middle of the pitch. And if was handball it was a yellow card — so why not give him a yellow card?”

Dean’s decision to deny Tottenham a penalty during the contest ended up proving very costly, as Spurs could not pick up a victory.

Tottenham simply couldn’t break Swansea’s resilient defence down, and ended up dropping more points at Wembley.

Spurs are now under serious pressure to find the winning formula in the Premier League at their temporary home, with Pochettino’s side already having to play catch up with the league leaders.
