Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he hasn’t really had anything to say to his players in the dressing room after the 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Spurs were looking to get their Champions League campaign kickstarted having drawn 2-2 at Olympiacos in their first group stage game, in which they were 2-0 up.

The visit of Bayern started well, as Tanguy Ndombele set up Son heung-min to open the scoring, but that’s about as good as it got for Tottenham.

Joshua Kimmich and Robert Lewandowski put Bayern in front, before Serge Gnabry took charge, scoring twice to make it 4-1, only for Harry Kane to give Spurs hope again with a penalty.

Bayern had a late furry in them though, as Gnabry scored two more, one either side of Lewandowski’s second, meaning Spurs walked away with a 7-2 thrashing.

Their hopes of getting out of the group stage have taken a major blow, even if just because of the goal difference situation, and the Tottenham players will no doubt be completely shellshocked after their humiliation.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino suggested that it’s difficult to talk about the defeat, and he didn’t say anything to his players, because the feeling throughout is one of disappointment, so there isn’t much to discuss.

Pochettino added that he will likely speak to his players about the game today, giving everyone time to calm down from the situation and let the emotions die down after a harrowing night for Spurs.

“It’s difficult to talk now,” said Pochettino. “I say nothing. It’s a moment to stay all together. You can imagine that we can’t talk now because it’s a situation where we need to be calm first. After that we will talk tomorrow, not today. Today is a moment where we all know how we feel, very disappointed.”

“The feelings of course are not so good. Now it’s a moment to be calm and not make a mistake. After a result like today it’s very important to stay calm. We are not going to fix anything by shouting or talking now when the emotion is on the skin,” he added.
