Moussa Sissoko has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround so far this season at Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to Yahoo Sports that Moussa Sissoko came very close to leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Sissoko endured a miserable first campaign at Spurs after arriving from Newcastle United for a £30 million fee, as valued by the Daily Mirror, and he appeared to have little future at the North London club.

Indeed, Pochettino admits that if a club had made an offer for Sissoko, he may no longer be at Tottenham.

“I am so honest with you. The player was at first interested to move or to leave because he wanted to play more in a season that has the World Cup at the end,” Pochettino said. “But I think maybe that possibility didn’t exist and I was more than happy for him to stay and to give him the possibility to play.

In the end, Sissoko sticking around at Spurs has worked out best for both parties.

The powerful French international has been transformed this term, and is now playing an important role for Spurs.

Tottenham may have enjoyed a lucky break, after not selling Sissoko during the summer transfer window.

With Mousa Dembele out, Sissoko now looks to be a vital cog in Pochettino’s starting line-up, and he is gradually winning over supporters of the Lilywhites.

And it is fair to say that Spurs would actually be a weaker team now, had they have sold Sissoko last month.
