Janssen is yet to score from open play since joining Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to Talksport that Harry Kane’s injury has scuppered his plan for Vincent Janssen.
Janssen arrived at White Hart Lane from AZ Alkmaar in July, having scored 27 league goals last term.
At 22 years of age, and with only one season of top flight football behind him, Pochettino had hoped to ease the striker in gently.
However, Kane’s injury has forced Janssen to play a more prominent role in the Argentine’s team, and it is fair to say things have not quite clicked for the Dutchman at Tottenham.
In 16 outings, he has scored just three goals, of which none have come from open play.
And Pochettino told Talksport: “The plan [for Janssen] was to share with Harry Kane. It’s true that after he got the injury, Harry, we pushed Vincent more than we planned to.
“He’s very young, he needs to adapt his game; he’s in a new club, a new league, a new culture, a different country.
“The process is good but I think we’re pushing him too much. He needs to feel more free, more fresh and that’s not the case now.”
Pochettino also suggested that the timing of Janssen’s arrival, with pre-season already underway, has not helped with his settling in.
And the same goes for Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko, who arrived more than two months after Victor Wanyama, widely regarded as Spurs’ best performing new signing.
On the bright side, though, Kane is scheduled to return to Tottenham’s squad for Sunday’s north London derby.
