The Tottenham Hotspur manager feels a bit of sympathy for the former West Brom coach.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to Football London that he feels sorry for Tony Pulis following his West Bromwich Albion axing.
West Brom parted company with the 59-year-old this week after the Baggies endured a run of six defeats and four draws from their last 12 Premier League games, leaving them one point above the drop zone.
The former Stoke boss led Albion to a 10th-placed finish last season, having comfortably helped them survive relegation during the previous two campaigns, and there is a sense among some Baggies fans that the veteran manager deserved more time to turn things around at the Hawthorns.
But football management is a ruthless business and the Spurs boss, who welcomes West Brom under caretaker boss Gary Megson to Wembley on Saturday, admits that he feels a degree of sympathy for his fellow manager.
“No, in football nothing surprises me today. Maybe years ago when I was more innocent, but not now. I feel sorry for him. We have a good relationship,” he told Football London.
“When this happens in football it’s painful. It’s not only our relationship, he is my colleague and we are in the same business and same position. Of course I wish him all the best.”
Tottenham are 11 points behind top-of-the-table Man City and more dropped points tomorrow, coupled with a City win away to Huddersfield on Sunday, would surely end their hopes of winning the Premier League title this season.
