Chelsea will play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday, and responded when asked whether he will mention Spurs’ woeful record at Stamford Bridge during his pre-game team-talk, as quoted by Football.London.

The Lilywhites currently sit in fourth position in the Premier League table, five points clear of fifth placed Chelsea, and if they manage to avoid defeat on Sunday, they will have one foot firmly inside the door of next season’s Champions League.

History is certainly not on Tottenham’s side, though.

Spurs have not won at Stamford Bridge since 1990, and a grand total of 25 visits.

This Tottenham team are different, though, and they have proved their resilience this season, having not lost a Premier League game since December 16th.

Pochettino was asked about his side’s Stamford Bridge hoodoo during his pre-match press conference, and insisted that he will not be mentioning it to his players before Sunday’s clash with the Blues, as quoted by Football.London:

Tottenham Hotspur's Argentinian head coach Mauricio Pochettino shouts instructions to his players from the touchline during the English Premier League football match between Arsenal and...

“No, it’s not a point to focus for us. We are focused and we must be focused on a win and a performance. To have the possibility to be better than them and to have capacity to win the game. Of course, history is the history. But it’s not going to help Chelsea or us, that does not count on the game.”

Tottenham can move eight points clear of Chelsea in the race for a top four finish with a win on Sunday, and that would surely be enough to secure Champions League football next season, albeit not mathematically.
