Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been highlighting his joy at Jay Rodriguez’s recent return to goalscoring form for Southampton, as he gets set to face the player this week.

Pochettino’s Spurs side will take on his former team Southampton on Wednesday with the Saints revelling in the fact forward Rodriguez appears to be getting back to form.

He scored twice against Bournemouth in his last outing, his first goals since September, as he continues to fully recover from a serious knee injury.

He was in good form for Southampton under Pochettino, even earning an England call-up, which also saw him linked with a move to Spurs when the Argentine headed to London.

Pochettino has been quoted by Sky Sports as expressing his joy at Rodriguez’s return to form, but was not keen to discuss those old transfer links:

“I was very happy. I sent him a text.

“I was happy to see him on the pitch again. He suffered a very bad injury and I remember, fresh in my mind, that day at Manchester City.

“He’s a top player, a top man and we were happy to see him score against Bournemouth.”

“There were a lot of players linked with Tottenham at that moment.”

Rodriguez was certainly a player that, when at his best, would have suited the style at Tottenham Hotspur and provided some extra coverage in the striking position.

Whilst Spurs fans will hope he postpones completely finding his form until after their upcoming meeting they would certainly not begrudge him a return to his best performances if it meant renewed interest in his services from Spurs.
