The Spurs boss signed his former Southampton star in an £11 million deal earlier this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told the club’s official website that he is delighted with the motivation and commitment he has seen from new signing Victor Wanyama so far in pre-season.
Having brought him to Southampton from Celtic three years ago, Pochettino signed Wanyama for a second time last month when he paid £11 million to bring the midfielder to White Hart Lane.
The 25-year-old Kenya international has been an important part of the Saints side under Pochettino and Ronald Koeman at St. Mary’s, and the Argentine Spurs boss is hoping that he will add steel and energy to his central midfield this season.
Wanyama has been training with his new teammates since the squad returned for pre-season at the start of the month, and his manager admitted that he is delighted with what he has seen from the star thus far.
Pochettino told the club’s official website: “Victor is very happy, excited and very motivated about the new challenge he has here,” said Mauricio.
“We’re happy as well because he’s an important player and a player who wants the best. We will provide him with the best tools to arrive at the start of the season really fit.”
Spurs have a wealth of talent in the central midfield area, with Wanyama joining the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Ryan Mason, Tom Carroll, and Nabil Bentaleb in the squad.
However, with a return to the Champions League group stage on the horizon this season, Pochettino has recognised that he needs to create more strength in depth at White Hart Lane, and in Wanyama he now has another strong and familiar option to call upon as needed.
