Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters ahead of his side’s game against Bournemouth tomorrow, and reiterated his stance on bringing youngsters through the system, suggesting that he will never change his philosophy of providing a platform that allows young talents to blossom, as quoted by Football.London.
Tottenham have really impressed this season, and currently sit in second position in the Premier League table – something that is all the more impressive when the average age of their first team squad is considered.
Pochettino highlighted the importance of continuing his philosophy of placing trust in young English players, when speaking to reporters, although he did admit that it can be a risky route to take, in the current climate where instant success is a must, as quoted by Football.London:
“It is true it is easier to go to France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Argentina or Brazil, where the clubs have different economies. The way they can survive is to sell players and put in youngsters from 17 to 19 year olds to play in the first team. But here, to bring in players of that age, your own players through the academy, when you have money to go into different markets and buy players, that is only if you are a little bit crazy, like we are – we believe in younger players and discovering the talent.”

One young player who has really grasped his opportunity with both hands is Harry Winks.
He played a major role in Spurs’ success this season, before unfortunately succumbing to an injury that ruled him out for the rest of their campaign.
It is highly doubtful that the 21-year-old would have been given a chance at any other club inside the Champions League spots.
And with the game becoming ever more money-orientated, Tottenham’s approach to player recruitment is refreshing to say the least.
