Mauricio Pochettino has told the Daily Express that Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli makes a lot of mistakes.

Alli was recorded in the early hours of the morning after England’s win over Croatia by a by-stander in the hotel that the Spurs man was staying at.

The clip went viral on social media, but Pochettino insists that Tottenham are fully supportive of the attacking midfielder.

“Dele makes a lot of mistakes still but we are here helping by being nice but strong, too, internally,” said Pochettino.

“We want to give him a really strong base and foundation to go on to have a really good career. But it is never easy for a young guy to be consistent when so many things happen – and many things have happened to him because he is so young.

“That said, he is such a talented player and has amazing character – although sometimes he has done badly for himself. He’s still so young and he needs to control that character and we’re here to help him.”

On the field, Alli certainly proved his worth at the weekend, as he helped Spurs to an impressive victory over Chelsea.

Alli scored Tottenham’s first goal, as he flicked in Christian Eriksen’s free-kick to put his side in front and Pochettino’s men never looked back after that moment.

Tottenham ultimately ran out 3-1 winners over their London rivals, as they moved up to third in the Premier League table.

Spurs will be looking for a repeat performance on Wednesday evening when they take on Inter Milan in the Champions League in a game which they simply must win.
