Speaking to Voetbal Krant, Newcastle United custodian Matz Sels has provided an insight into Rafael Benitez’s coaching methods.

Sels joined Newcastle United from Gent this summer for a fee believed to be around £6.5 million and the goalkeeper has already managed to establish himself as the number one choice at St. James’ Park.

The 24-year-old did endure a shaky start to life at Newcastle but he has looked more assured over the past few matches.

Now Sels has gone on to speak to the Belgian media regarding his time at Tyneside so far and has also made revelations regarding manager Rafael Benitez’s training methods.

The Belgian international stated that he has been able to adapt to life in England better in recent times and also explained that Benitez likes to coach according to the ‘Spanish school of football’.

Sels told Voetbal Krant, “I have begun to adapt to the country. On top of that we lost our two first league games. The last match was better.

“He (Benitez) has a different way of working than Hein. We work a lot more with the ball, according to the Spanish school of football.”

Sles has managed two consecutive clean sheets against Bristol City and Brighton, and he will be looking to continue his good run of form when Newcastle battle it out against Derby County at Pride Park during the upcoming weekend.
