Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels struggled during his first season with the club, and Rafael Benitez hasn’t given him a chance since.

Sels almost made the move to Anderlecht earlier this summer, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
Sels is now one of five senior goalkeepers currently at Newcastle, and even he admits that Rafael Benitez has too many options to choose from in the position.

“It’s true that I want to be a success here. In the beginning, it’s difficult, because you have to adapt to a new style of play, and also it was my first time abroad,” the £5 million signing said (BBC Sport).
“Maybe there are clubs who will show interest, and we’ll see, because there are five at training and that is too many.”
Sels spent last season on loan in Belgium where he impressed, but his form at Newcastle previously was poor.

Sels was brought in at Newcastle back in 2016, when they were in the Championship, but his shaky form in his first few weeks of English football was enough to see him dropped and he has never made it back into starting contention since.
Newcastle also have Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliott and youngster Freddie Woodman to pick from, with the competition to wear their number one shirt currently fierce.
