West Ham United will be preparing for their final Premier League game of the season.

Matty Taylor has brutaly admitted that he ‘underestimated’ West Ham United supporters and didn’t realise how big their fan base was when he first signed for the East London club.

The 37-year-old moved to Upton Park in 2011 when the Hammers were a Championship side and he helped them make an instant return to England’s top-flight.

During his time with the Irons, and throughout his playing career, Taylor was known for his wonder strikes from the middle of the park.

Speaking to Jim White on TalkSport (07/05/2019 at 12:55 pm), Taylor honestly admitted that once he joined West Ham, he then realised the enormity of their fanbase.

“I completely underestimated how many fans West Ham had before I signed, really naive,” Taylor told TalkSport. “I remember playing a pre-season game, I think it was at Dagenham, there must have been three or four thousand fans there for a pre-season game that was relatively a low key affair.

“Then every week throughout the season sold out 34/35 thousand fans willingness us on to win. Unfortunately, we hit the post that season and went up via the playoffs. Great season. Never want to go through it again. Relief [that we went up].”

During his career, midfielder Taylor would have been a bit of a fan favourite because of his style of play and the fact that he could do something special from out of nowhere.

Whether he was playing for West Ham, Portsmouth or in the lower leagues of English football, he always had a knack of scoring spectacular goals.

Since he left West Ham, they have managed to secure their status in the Premier League and move into a new stadium as they bid to take the next step on the ladder.
