Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff was offered chances by Steve Bruce over pre-season.

Longstaff had intended to get first team football at the start of pre-season, and was set to ask Newcastle for a temporary move elsewhere.
The youngster felt that his development would be best served by going out on loan away from St. James’ Park.
However, Longstaff was one of the stars of Newcastle’s pre-season and forced his way into Steve Bruce’s plans.
Longstaff has now been in training with Newcastle’s first-team throughout the season so far.
And the midfielder said: “At the start of pre-season my aim was to get out on loan.
“But pre-season went well and I have remained in the squad.
“The lads were great with me over pre-season and they brought a buzz to the squad.
“The plan was completely different to the way it was mapped out.
“I thought I’d go to Spain with the reserves then head out on loan.
“Thankfully I got a chance.”

Longstaff is yet to make an appearance this season, but he must be pushing for a start at Newcastle now.
The 19-year-old was so impressive over pre-season, and already his energy could actually aid Newcastle.
Bruce’s side have been poor so far this season, losing both their opening two matches.
And Bruce must be thinking about using Longstaff now, even if he would be stepping in when the Magpies are under pressure to start getting results.
