Surely Aston Villa supporters will pinch themselves upon waking up this morning.

The Aston Villa fanbase is in dreamland after Friday saw their beloved Villans complete a transfer of a certain Philippe Coutinho.

The former Liverpool maestro has been reunited with Steven Gerrard at Villa Park, with the manager signing him on a half-season loan agreement from Barcelona.

Another figure in the West Midlands who might not believe what his club has just done is Matty Cash, a £16 million signing in 2020.

The Aston Villa player is clearly a massive fan of the Brazilian playmaker.

And here’s what Cash – then an 18-year-old – tweeted about Coutinho during his Liverpool career:

Absolute baller

Well, that certainly was a fitting description of the South American wizard.

During his previous Premier League stint, Coutinho set up 35 goals and scored another 41 throughout 152 top-flight English appearances for Liverpool.

However, the fact he’s joining Aston Villa now is testament to the fact that his career at Camp Nou hasn’t gone brilliantly.

But there’s no denying that he could be a truly massive player under Gerrard, particularly given that the duo are former teammates with one another.

Therefore, Gerrard will know how to get Coutinho back on track and, hopefully, the Aston Villa right-back will be reminded why he called the Brazil international what he did in 2015.
