Matty Cash has stated on Instagram that he should have ‘stayed’ on his feet after giving away a penalty during Aston Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.
Spurs were leading the clash 1-0 heading into a crucial last half hour before Cash’s exuberant sliding challenge resulted in Harry Kane going to ground even though the ball was heading out of play.
Referee Mike Dean didn’t hesitate in pointing to the spot, with VAR being happy with the on-field call, as Kane slotted home to seal the points for his side.
Whilst, for some, Kane knew exactly what he was doing when winning the penalty, overall, Villa weren’t good enough to walk away with anything from the match.
And Cash was pretty honest and open about Sunday’s incident, which just took the life out of the game and prevented any drama’s from occurring late on.
For Villa, it perhaps signals the end of their hopes of wanting to secure a top-seven finish.
Whilst Spurs, after a seemingly disastrous week, are now only three points off fourth-placed Chelsea.
Even during this ‘crisis’ period, Jose Mourinho’s side are top of the form table during these past five matches.
