Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt.

Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with a move to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt – and the centre back has now had his say on the rumours.
Spurs failed to bring in any new signings over the summer, but also kept hold of some players that many thought would be leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
One such player was defender Toby Alderweireld, as many though the Belgian would be on his way out this summer, due to questions surrounding his contract situation.
With the Belgian strongly linked with the likes of Manchester United, the London Evening Standard reported that Tottenham had already identified their top choice to replace him; Ajax’s De Ligt.
Of course, when Alderweireld didn’t leave, Spurs didn’t make a move for De Ligt, and the Ajax star remains one of the most in-demand young players in the world.
Conventional wisdom suggests that, when Alderweireld does go – which could be next summer thanks to a release clause in his deal which can be activated for a short period – De Ligt will re-emerge as Tottenham’s ideal replacement.

The 19-year-old is already Ajax’s vice captain, has more than 70 first-team appearance as well as seven caps for the Netherlands, and is being backed for a huge future.
Now, De Ligt has been asked by Four Four Two about those Tottenham rumours, and revealed that he hasn’t heard anything from Spurs, but it’s nice to be linked with Pochettino’s men, and he is just focused on Ajax for now.
“It’s nothing special, to be honest,” said De Ligt. “There are so many tabloids writing things. I haven’t heard anything, so I focus on Ajax. It’s nice to see your name linked with those kinds of clubs, but if I didn’t hear anything, it doesn’t matter,” he added.
