Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic will face Rosenborg in the Champions League qualifying third round.

Celtic featured in the group stage of the Champions League last season, and the Bhoys will be looking to do the same in 2017-18.

The Scottish Premiership side have kicked off their quest to feature in Europe’s premier club competition quite strongly.

Brendan Rodgers’s side got the better of NIFL Premiership side Linfield 6-0 on aggregate in the Champions League qualifying second round.

Celtic will now take on Norwegian club Rosenborg in the third qualifying round. The first leg will take place at Celtic Park in Glasgow next week, with the second leg to be played in Trondheim in Norway in August.

Matthias Vilhjalmsson is set to feature for Rosenborg against the Glasgow giants. The 30-year-old, who can operate as a striker or as a defensive midfielder, has been on the books of the Norwegian champions since 2015.

The Iceland international is looking forward to playing against Celtic in the Champions League qualifying third round.

“Facing Celtic will be a great experience that I am really looking forward to,” Vilhjalmsson told The Scottish Sun.

“We have everything to gain. They are much better than they were two or three years ago. Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job.”

Celtic will head into the two-legged tie against Rosenborg as favourites, but in order to progress, the Bhoys have to make sure that they register a big win at Celtic Park in the first leg.
