According to a report from the Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are set to renew their interest in Borussia Dortmund centre-back Matthias Ginter this summer, with the 23-year-old allegedly available for just £15million.

That would be an absolute steal for a player who is only going to get better in the years ahead and is versatile enough to cover in a whole host of positions.

While he may be brought in predominantly to challenge Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in central defence, Ginter is also able to play as a right-back or a holding midfielder, and similar to Eric Dier he would be the answer to a whole host of potential problems over an entire campaign.

Ginter has already racked up 102 appearances for Dortmund, scoring four goals and providing 12 assists in the process, and he previously turned out 81 times for Freiburg after coming through their youth ranks.

In an otherwise inflated market, £15million for Ginter would represent considerable value for money but it is his ability to play in so many different positions that could see him become an instant hit were he to arrive in North London.

Alderweireld’s Tottenham future remains in some doubt despite the confusion regarding his contract situation, and with Kevin Wimmer seemingly surplus to requirements Ginter could be the man to step in.

That said, he could also compete with Kieran Trippier for the right-back spot if Kyle Walker leaves this summer, while he would offer Spurs another option in defensive midfield as the matches build up in four different competitions.

Tottenham have not always got it right in the transfer market but when it comes to Ginter, a move is a no-brainer.
