West Ham United needed a late fightback to beat Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
BBC Sport pundit Matthew Upson has claimed that West Ham getting ‘settled’ into the London Stadium and ‘winning matches’ is a ‘huge step’ to the club’s improvement.
The Hammers recorded a dramatic 4-3 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon that ensured they extended their unbeaten home run to seven matches in all competitions.
At one stage against the Premier League’s bottom-of-the-table club, Manuel Pellegrini’s side were 3-1 down, only for the home team to stage a remarkable fightback, including scoring the winner in stoppage-time.
Speaking to Final Score on BBC One (16/03/2019 5:15 pm), Upson shared his thoughts on how West Ham are progressing in front of their own fans.
“West Ham’s home form is a massive bonus for them,” Upson told Final Score. “Getting settled into that stadium and winning matches at home on a regular basis is a huge step to improvement for West Ham.”
When West Ham initially moved into their new surroundings in 2016, it didn’t start off well, with troubles both on the field in terms of performances and off the field.
They struggled to prove their worth as they lost a number of matches in heavy fashion under then-manager Slaven Bilic before David Moyes stepped in for a brief period to try and calm the situation down.
But since the summer and the arrival of Pellegrini, the Irons have looked like a completely different outfit, both in terms of picking up points and producing high-quality performances.
Albeit Felipe Anderson has quietened down in recent weeks, summer purchases have paid off and the London outfit are now looking more like a team as they currently sit in the Premier League’s top 10.
