Glasgow Rangers attempted to bring Matthew Kennedy to Ibrox, while their Scottish Premiership rivals were also keen on the youngster.

Kennedy looked destined for an incredibly bright future when he got the chance to join the Toffees after bursting onto the scene with Kilmarnock. Unfortunately, the winger’s spell on Merseyside did not live up to expectations.
After a number of loan spells and no appearances for Everton’s senior side, Kennedy joined Cardiff City in 2015. It was a similar story with the Bluebirds as he spent much of his time out on loan before joining St Johnstone this summer.
But despite his career seemingly not taking the path that he would have expected when he joined the Premier League side, he insisted that he does not kick himself over snubbing Rangers and Celtic when he had the chance to join the Old Firm pair.

“When the Everton move happened, I had Rangers and Celtic interested,” he told the Sunday Post.
“I couldn’t turn Everton down,” he went on to add. “It was a dream come true. Everyone wants to go to the Premier League and I was no different.”

“I still look back on that time and think I definitely improved as a player. I don’t regret not going to Rangers or Celtic. I achieved my dream as a young boy by playing for Kilmarnock.”
It has been a mixed start to the season for Kennedy’s current side, but they were on the receiving end of a stunning Rangers performance at the weekend as Steven Gerrard’s men ran out 5-1 winners at Ibrox, moving above Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table as the Hoops were beaten by Kilmarnock.
