West Ham United edged out the Blues at the Olympic Stadium.

Matthew Ethrington has reacted to West Ham United’s League Cup win over Chelsea on Twitter, commenting that Edmilson Fernandes was “brilliant” in the victory.
West Ham continued their resurgence by edging out their London rivals 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium last night.
Goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Fernandes – his first for the Irons following a £5 million switch from Sion in the summer – helped Slaven Bilic’s side into a 2-0 lead.

Gary Cahill pulled one back late on, but it would not deny the Hammers a spot in the quarter-finals, where they face Manchester United at Old Trafford next month.
It was Fernandes’s second successive start under Bilic after impressing in Saturday’s win over Sunderland, and ex-West Ham man Ethrington says the youngster was simply brilliant against Antonio Conte’s side.

Fernandes came off on 68 minutes with an injury and it remains to be seen how serious it is.
It was United’s third successive win all competitions and Bilic’s troops look to have turned a corner this season, after winning one of their first seven Premier League outings.
They resume their ascent up the Premier League table with a trip to Everton on the weekend
