West Ham completed two incoming signings during January.
West Ham United icon Matthew Etherington has urged Hammers fans to back deadline-day signing Jordan Hugill despite a “disappointing” January transfer window for David Moyes’ side.
The Hammers managed to complete just two deals in target man Hugill and the loan signing of Inter Milan playmaker Joao Mario, with more additions wanted in the final third as well as a central midfielder.
Hugill, 25, joined the east Londoners for a fee believed to be in the region of £8million from Moyes’ former side Preston North End, after scoring 10 goals in 29 league and cup outings with the Championship club this season.
Former winger Etherington “genuinely fears relegation” but has urged Hammers fans to get behind powerhouse Hugill in order to give him the best chance of shining in claret and blue.
The Hammers failed to land a central midfielder despite being linked with the likes of Joe Allen, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jonjo Shelvey, Harry Arter, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Tom Davies and more during January.
Hugill could be in line to make his debut for the West Ham on Saturday afternoon as Moyes’ side travel to the south coast to face Chris Hughton’s Brighton at the Amex.
