Dom Matteo scored a bullet header for Leeds against AC Milan 17 years ago on Wednesday.

Dominic Matteo has posted a message on Twitter on the 17-year anniversary of his Leeds United goal against AC Milan that sent the Whites into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Scottish defender Matteo, then just 26 years of age, latched onto a Lee Bowyer corner to power home a bullet header past Brazilian goalkeeper Dida at the San Siro.

Leeds needed a point away from home in Milan and they managed to earn just that, after Serginho had equalised for Milan with just 20 minutes to spare.
Matteo, who also played for the likes of Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, described the draw as an “amazing night, made even better by the Leeds fans”.
In what was the 2000-01 edition of the Champions League, Leeds qualified for the second group stage of the competition where they surpassed Lazio, Real Madrid and Anderlecht to reach the quarter-finals.
Beating Spaniards Deportivo La Coruna, Leeds were eventually knocked out in the semi-finals of the competition by Valencia in what was a spectacular run against Europe’s elite by the underdogs from Yorkshire.
Matteo, now 43, made a huge 139 appearances in all competitions for Leeds during his four-year stay at Elland Road, before leaving the Whites when the financial collapse of 2004 struck.
