Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly keen to bring in the Real Madrid man.

Mateo Kovacic scores in the first half of the Real Madrid vs Barcelona International Champions Cup friendly match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on July 29, 2017.

If Tottenham Hotspur do manage to get a deal for Matteo Kovacic over the line this summer he could become their new Luka Modric.

Spurs sold Modric to Real Madrid in 2012, and they have never quite found a direct replacement of the same quality.

Although the likes of Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have all been excellent during their time at Tottenham, they do not posses quite the same qualities as Modric.

Kovacic, though, looks like a natural successor for the 32-year-old in Croatia’s squad and he could perform a similar role to Modric for Tottenham too.

AS Sport in Spain claim that Spurs are interested in signing Kovacic from Madrid this summer.

And if he does arrive at Tottenham, he would be a wonderful addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

Kovacic is blessed with similar levels of energy to Modric, and he is also talented in both attacking and defensive scenarios.

Kovacic would bring genuine box-to-box quality to Tottenham, and if Spurs do have a chance to bring him in, he would be a superb signing for the North London side.
