Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-17’s won the Euro Youth Cup on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team stars may have been around the world playing for their countries during the international break, but their Under-17’s have been thriving.
The likes of Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Harry Kane have been with England whilst the likes of Son Heung-min and Davinson Sanchez have travelled a little further afield.
Tottenham’s Under-17’s have also been on their travels, as they were in Euro Youth Cup action in Germany, playing in a two-day event in a bid to win the tournament.
That’s exactly what Tottenham did, as having seen off Anderlecht in the semi finals, Spurs went and beat Galatasaray 1-0 in the final to bring home silverware.
The tournament win backs up the notion that Spurs have one of the most promising youth setups in the country, and will continue to try and push young players towards the first team.
Spurs winger J’Neil Bennett was named Player of the Tournament, but coach Matt Wells directed his praise towards two other teenagers that played key roles in his Spurs side.
Wells has told the club’s official website that he felt winger Rayan Clarke captained the team ‘brilliantly’ throughout the weekend, claiming his attitude and mentality drove the team on to victory.
Wells added that goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi was similarly impressive, as the two English teenagers thrived in Germany and suggested that they have bright futures ahead of them.
“It’s been a very good tournament and a special mention goes to Rayan because he captained the team throughout the weekend brilliantly,” said Wells. “His attitude and mentality was superb and that was one of the catalysts for us winning the competition. Josh Oluwayemi in goal also did well in that respect – both of those were a credit to the group,” he added.
