Matt Targett has praised the ‘fantastic’ Dan Burn for dealing with Ollie Watkins during Newcastle’s 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday, as he told talkSPORT.
The left-back, who is on-loan at Newcastle from Villa, shared that Watkins can be a ‘handful’ but Burn’s did a job on him.
Targett was, of course, ineligible to play over the weekend because the game was against his parent club.
But when he made his debut during Newcastle’s 3-1 win against Everton, just like Burn, he made a flying start to life in the north east.
This is what Targett had to say about Burn up against Watkins and the mood around the camp at St James’ Park now that they have won three Premier League games on the bounce.
“Dan was brilliant at the weekend,” said Targett. “Ollie Watkins can be a real handful on his day.
“He dealt with him very well and credit to him. The changing room is in a very good place, at the moment, so long may it continue.”

It seems as though Targett may have played his last game for Villa given his comments on talkSPORT.
The Englishman admitted that he was left ‘surprised’ by Villa’s decision to bring Lucas Digne to the club during the January transfer window.
Not so much so bringing in another left-back, but someone of the ‘calibre’ of Digne, who jumped straight into being number one.
Given that Targett isn’t seemingly willing to wait for first-team opportunities, come the summer, he will be in the same position when he returns to Villa and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he moves on a permanent basis.
