The Magpies are expected to secure promotion from the Championship this season.
Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie has told the Chronicle that they must look to replicate the mentality that his successful Bournemouth team had.
The Magpies are expected to dominate the Championship this season given many feel they have the best squad in the division.
After a shaky start they have proved their quality, currently sitting third in the table with 15 points from their first eight games.
Before the weekend loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, they had gone on a five-match winning streak to surge up the table after losing their first two games of the campaign.
That result brought them back down to earth somewhat and showed that they must be at the top of their game consistently to be successful this year.
Their mentality will play a key role and Ritchie has urged them to follow the example his Bournemouth team set.
“The season we got promoted at Bournemouth was that if we lost then we didn’t lose many times twice on the bounce,” he told the Chronicle.
“There was always a response. No team goes unbeaten all season other than Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ side – you will lose games. It’s about having that belief and mentality in the group to respond that sets you apart.”
Ritchie is certainly right to tell Newcastle to look at Bournemouth as a prime example of how to escape the Championship.
The year were promoted they lost back-to-back games on just two occasions and finished top of the table with 90 points.
Newcastle United would certainly welcome a similar finish and using the Cherries as an example to follow would be a smart choice for them.
